Port Elizabeth  |  Sand, sea, game and more...

Nelson Mandela Bay is named after former South African president, Nelson Mandela.  Situated on the south-eastern tip of Africa, Port Elizabeth boasts 40 km of pristine beaches and coastline, and can undoubtedly be known as the water sports capital of South Africa.  The city has  a broad range of attractions from history and heritage, eco tourism, beaches, entertainment and wildlife viewing.  The city is a melting pot of cultures as it is the first meeting point of the Khoisan, Xhosa, English, Dutch and German people in South Africa.

PE as the city is affectionately known has the best city beached in South Africa, with miles of golden sand, warm water, diving, surfing and safe bathing beaches. The city has been called the watersports capital of South Africa. Various bars and the casino are located around the beachfront.

Easy day drives from PE will get you to a variety of world class big 5 game reserves to suite every budget, from a day entrance at Addo Elephant park to luxurious five star safari packages.

The vibrant city centre has both historical interest and for foodies the cosmopolitan area of Stanley Street in Richmond hill is where the hip and happening people hang out.

Island Vibe  |  Port Elizabeth

This kooky and creative new edition to the Island Vibe family offers a unique and unparalleled experience! It’s as though you are present in the 1800s, if the 1800s had all the comforts of the 21st Century. Island Vibe has chosen to nestle its next little bit of paradise on a prominent and historical piece of land, forming a significant part of the famous Route 67, in a house built in c. 1884 and recently restored to its former glory with a touch of the famous Island Vibe flare. Playing custodian to Fort Frederick right outside, the first military fort ever built in the Eastern Cape overlooking the Port Elizabeth harbour, The Harbour Master’s House will be offering guests an opportunity to live and learn about the endlessly interesting history of the city during a 4-hour introductory walking tour. By visiting some of the more renowned local landmarks in Port Elizabeth, The Harbour Master’s House hopes to achieve a level of historical enlightenment unlike any other backpackers, while still maintaining the crucial element of fun, entertainment and comfort. As such, the Harbour Master’s House will host extravagant dress up and themed dinner parties, offer regular movie nights, enticing drum circles and game nights inviting guests to put their poker faces into practice.

The Harbour Master’s House, with dorms, private and family rooms alike (each with their own original ornamental fireplace), an entertainment area, communal kitchens and incredible dining room, bar and parlour, and 180 degree balcony views of the harbour, is unique in its quirky style and historical significance.

The Island Vibe family is honoured to welcome you to the new addition!
