Jeffreys Bay is a sacred word on many a surfer’s lips. Whether you planning your holiday from abroad or taking a local road trip along the coast, Jbay will beckon as a definite stop over point. There are numerous breaks along the shoreline, that gives both the novice and pro an awesome day out in the waves. Island Vibe is set on the dunes overlooking both a reef and a beach break. A simple stroll across the beach allows you plenty of surf sessions a day without the worry of transport. Shuttles can be organised for the longer haul trips across town or to St Francis Bay.

Surf Lessons

If you haven’t actually come here as a surfer, then you definitely need to see what all the fuss is about! Jbay is the surf mecca of South Africa and one of the coolest places to try this adventurous sport out. Take a quick peek for 2 hours, or do a longer haul surf camp for 3 or 5 days. Whichever you’re fancy, guaranteed you will have a blast and be hooked for ever more. Wetsuits and specially designed soft boards provided. Surf camp packages include accommodation, meals, tuition and board rental. Book ahead to secure your spot.

Beach Horse Rides

This is really a great way to hit you into happy mode or bounce you out of a hangover. Riding on the beach is such a euphoric adventure, you’ll even forgive yourself for thinking of going on it in the first place. Fourteen kilometres of pristine nature, first leg winding through the bush then over the sand dunes and down onto the beach. Totally magnificent.

Our local waterfall provides a haven from the wind when all other beach activities are a no-no. Set in the kloof above Jeffreys Bay, the Waterfall is a peaceful yet exciting outing. The natural rock formation allows for a deep mountain pool and plenty of flat areas to relax. Those feeling adventurous can try out the zipline or take a hike up the valley, otherwise take along your book, some refreshments and even a picnic. Trips available from Island Vibe.

Equated to snowboarding but really it’s quite different! For one, its best enjoyed in summer, and two, you can go in board shorts! Join us for a couple of hours on the dunes and after that give us your opinion! Not good if the rain has fallen recently, but definitely a laugh any other time.

Township Tours

Do you know the best way to meet a community? Walk around, meet and greet, exchange names and stories, kick a soccer ball and naturally, share a beer. That is our way of introducing you to Jbay folk, so bring out your smile and start practising “Molo, kunjani?” You will be local in no time!

From a warm welcome and a tour around the house to a hug goodbye - Island Vibe made me feel very much at home!
The location is incredible, right at the beach, overlooking the dunes and you literally wake up and fall asleep to the sound of the waves.
It's the place to be for surfing and lessons are offered daily at very affordable prices. If you can already surf, wetsuits and boards can be rented as well and you just have to walk down the beach to catch your next wave.
The dorms were clean and had lockers, there's a restaurant offering good breakfast, lunch and dinner and a bar to hang out at night. All in all I had a wonderful time at Island Vibe in Jeffrey's Bay! 🙂

I have stayed here for two weeks, and I plan to extend my stay to at least one month. Most people who come here do the same because it's so much fun. You are right on the beach and next to the excellent surf spot of Kitchen Windows. Supertubes and other spots are only a short drive away. A cab there costs about $5USD, so you really don't need a car.

There's a restaurant that serves three courses throughout the day. The food is good and very reasonably priced. There are surf lessons twice per day, and there's plenty of backpackers passing through. It's by far the most fun hostel in Jeffery's Bay, and the prices make it a great value.

Jbay has quite a shopping reputation; plenty of surf fashion going around to populate our one and only main road right through town. And best of all….the prices are wallet friendly! From Billabong, to RVCA, Ripcurl, Quiksilver and local brand Country Feeling. By the way, if you are emptying your backpack for this reason, you can unload your “not wanted” with us for charity.

Learn English

If you speak English, read no further. If not and you would like to practise a bit more or actually get down to some real studying, here is your place. Jeffreys Bay Language School is a stroll from Island Vibe and has the most fun you’ve seen in a classroom for ages.
